First 5 Sacramento invests in many community efforts that promote early childhood development for children from the prenatal stage to age five and their families. Commission funds are allocated to programs contributing to the achievement of its priority results for children in Sacramento County. The following are the current funding opportunities available from First 5 Sacramento.

Community Grant Applications

Community grants are available for community members like you – parents, grandparents or a group of neighbors. The grants are up to $5,000 for ongoing projects lasting up to one-year. The next application deadline is Friday, October 1, 2010.

The Community Building Initiative (CBI) provides funding for community projects within the County of Sacramento that benefit children ages zero to five and encourage families of children zero to five to build relationships with other families. These relationships create stronger communities and better places for children ages zero to five and their families to live.

Please contact a CBI staff member by Friday, September 24th in order to be eligible to apply for the October 1st deadline. You may contact Julie Beyers at 876 6529 or Myel Jenkins at 876 5879.

Phase 2 Community Grants

Larger community grants up to $30,000 are available to experienced Community Building Initiative grantees that are interested and ready to move efforts to the next level. Applicants are encouraged to continue the momentum of their previous social capital efforts, increase their activity and involve more families.

Interested applicants must attend a Mandatory Applicant Workshop on Wednesday, September 8th in order to qualify for the Friday, October 29, 2010 Phase 2 Grant Deadline. Please RSVP for the workshop by contacting Julie Beyers at 876 6529 or Myel Jenkins at 876 5879.

Out of Cycle Funding Request

Following the adoption of the Strategic Plan and Implementation Plan Framework, Commission staff conducts competitive bid processes to select programs to carry out specified strategies. In order to be responsive to changes within the community, it is anticipated that organizations may on occasion approach the Commission with requests outside the scheduled bid process. The purpose of this procedure is to establish a protocol for responding to out-of-cycle requests in response to critical/immediate unmet community needs.
