Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) - Sacramento County, Department of Health and Human Services - The Community Lactation Assistance Enhancement Project is aimed at increasing the number of mothers breastfeeding at discharge from the hospital and continuing for at least one year afterward. WIC provides mothers with access to Lactation Consultants who assist and support them with breastfeeding.

Baby Friendly Certifications - First 5 Sacramento has been working with local hospitals and birthing centers to become Baby Friendly. Mercy San Juan, Mercy General, Sutter Memorial, UC Davis Medical Center, Kaiser South, The Birth Center, and Mercy Folsom have filed their letters of intent and are going through the process of training staff and developing/implementing policies that help encourage and support breastfeeding.
Two local hospitals have achieved Baby Friendly designation!

Health Education Council's “In the Grow” Program will provide a series of activities that address the obesity epidemic, including: nutrition and physical activity workshops for parents and caregivers, train preschool staff on nutrition and physical activity curricula, and cirriculum development.
First 5 Sacramento has partnered with local Recreation and Park departments to create neighborhood pint size playgrounds for young children through the age of five. First 5 has funded 23 Tot Lots and butterfly gardens that give young children and their families a safe place to play together.
