First 5 Children Reading

What is First 5 Sacramento Doing to Improve Quality Child Care?

First 5 Sacramento Commission’s goal is to increase the number of children ages zero to five who receive quality early care and education. The 2010-2015 Strategic Plan cycle focuses on providing resources to child care providers by increasing the quality of care they provide. Caregivers work closely with Child Action, Inc. to receive the important services of the Quality Child Care Collaborative (QCCC), including Comprehensive Approaches to Raising Education Standards (CARES) stipends.

In addition, through the Sacramento County Office of Education’s Preschool Bridging Model Plus (PBM Plus), child care providers receive one-on-one technical assistance to further their education, improve their child care environments by enhancing the quality of child care for young children. These approaches will provide children with many positive outcomes, including cognitive development and readiness for kindergarten. Additionally, parents and caregivers will receive information allowing them to make informed choices about both the availability and the quality of the care that they select for their children.
