First 5 Children Reading

What is First 5 Sacramento Doing to Improve Quality Child Care?

First 5 Sacramento Commission’s goal is to increase the number of children ages zero to five who receive quality early care and education. The 2010-2015 Strategic Plan cycle will focus on providing resources to child care providers by increasing the quality of care they provide. Caregivers will work closely with Child Action, Inc. to receive the important services of the Quality Child Care Collaborative (QCCC), including Comprehensive Approaches to Raising Education Standards (CARES) stipends, and Constructing Connections.

  • The QCCC is a collaborative made up of multiple agencies that provide support to the Sacramento county child care community, promoting the development and retention of the professional early learning workforce, improving and enhancing the quality of child care services available to Sacramento County families.

  • The CARES program is an education incentive program for child care providers working with children ages zero to five who are continuing their education.

  • Constructing Connections works with providers who are interested in expanding and/or opening a large family child care home and/or a center child care program, making the process much easier to navigate.

These approaches will provide children with many positive outcomes, including cognitive development and readiness for kindergarten. Additionally, parents and caregivers will receive information allowing them to make informed choices about both the availability and the quality of the care that they select for their children.
